KBS’ Net Zero Trailers are inspired by
a commitment to high-performance construction.
a commitment to high-performance construction.
Why Net Zero?
In 2017, a simple conversation sparked an idea at KBS: what if construction trailers could be more energy efficient and create a better workspace for our field teams? We challenged ourselves to rethink the traditional construction trailer. If we’re delivering high-quality, innovative buildings for our clients, our field teams deserve an office that reflects those same standards. NZT 1.0 became an opportunity to apply the principles of high-performance construction—airtight building envelopes, energy efficiency, and renewable power—to create a workspace that is more comfortable, more sustainable, and completely independent of the electrical grid.
After seeing its success in the field, the decision to build three more was easy. The trailer has reduced energy use by roughly 70% compared to a conventional office trailer and operates entirely off-grid using solar and battery storage. More importantly, it has given our project teams a workspace they are proud to call their office.

Key Benefits:
- Power generated by a single NZT
Our NZTs operate completely off-grid using rooftop solar panels and battery storage with no utility power required. During the typical year, one of our NZTs will generate between approximately 4,300-4,500 kWh in electricity. Compare this to the roughly 3,500 kWh in electricity one of these trailers uses per year, making these additions to our fleet a no-brainer!
- Cost Savings
Each construction job requires an office trailer for our project teams to meet and store plans and equipment. Our research shows that electrical consumption by one of our NZTs is reduced by approximately 70% compared to a traditional construction trailer, resulting in an estimated annual electricity savings of $1,200. Sustainability matters!
- Pride in our workspace
These trailers aren’t just more energy efficient than a typical construction trailer, they also provide a sleek, elevated workspace for our field teams to take pride in and move us closer to a more sustainable jobsite. Each trailer is equipped with an operable restroom featuring updated fixtures, a modern HVAC system that allows for zone control, and the combination of power storage and insulation improvements ensures our project teams are walking into a comfortable workspace that is not too hot or cold.
