At KBS, we are continually looking for ways to leverage technology to improve our construction processes, strengthen quality assurance, and deliver the highest-quality projects. As part of these efforts, we are implementing DroneDeploy, a drone mapping and reality capture platform that helps our teams document site conditions, monitor progress, and make more informed decisions throughout construction.
DroneDeploy, by Procore, uses drone-captured imagery and mapping technology to transform jobsite data into detailed visual documentation, 3D models, and actionable insights. These capabilities provide our project teams with an additional tool to support field inspections, verify site conditions, and improve coordination throughout the construction process.
Improving Inspections and Quality Control
One of the most valuable applications of DroneDeploy is the ability to document critical construction elements before they are concealed by subsequent work. Capturing these conditions provides a visual record that can support quality control inspections, verification, and project documentation.
Examples include:
- Post-tension cable layouts before concrete placement.
- Underground utilities before backfilling.
- Weather barriers and flashing systems before façade installation.
By capturing these conditions at the right time, our teams can strengthen inspection documentation and support quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
Supporting Better Project Visibility
Beyond quality control inspections, DroneDeploy offers tools to capture and analyze site conditions before construction, during active construction, and at project completion. Its capabilities include aerial mapping, 3D point clouds, topographic mapping, cut-and-fill analysis, volumetric measurements, progress documentation, and exterior punch lists. These tools can help our teams compare actual site conditions against design information, track progress, identify potential discrepancies, and maintain a clearer picture of jobsite conditions. Integration with platforms such as Procore also creates opportunities to connect site documentation with our existing project management and design workflows.
Recognizing the Team Behind the Technology
The successful implementation of new technology takes teamwork, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement. We recognize and appreciate our Special Projects and Quality Control team for supporting the company’s efforts to incorporate innovative tools into our construction operations. Their support in advancing the use of DroneDeploy reflects our commitment to improving inspection processes, strengthening our quality assurance program, and continually looking for better ways to build.
As we continue to integrate technology into our projects, tools like DroneDeploy will help us enhance documentation, support informed decision-making, and maintain our focus on quality at every stage of construction.
Building better means continually improving how we work—and our team is helping lead the way.
