Two KBS project teams were recognized for high standards in quality and safety during the second quarter of this year.
The quality award was given to the Colony Village team consisting of Daniel Atwood, project engineer; Amy Hale, project assistant; Michael Stephens, project manager; David Taylor, superintendent and Van VanKerckhove, assistant superintendent. The team is working on the 188,300-square-foot apartment complex in Chester, Va. including 166 units within a gated community.
“The Colony Village Team has done an excellent job of setting the stage for quality and executing the plan effectively through preconstruction meetings and field inspections,” said Matt Kamstra, corporate quality director. “The team continues to monitor the project through daily quality inspections and effectively tracking any necessary repairs through completion. They have done an excellent job working together as a team to provide a quality product.”
The Lidl Virginia Beach Holland Road took honors with the safety award. The team is made up of McMahon Croft, project manager; Jacob Dalton, project engineer; David Green, superintendent; Tina Hudson, project assistant and Ronnie Jackson, carpenter. The team is working on the 36,000-square-foot new construction of a Lidl grocery store in Virginia Beach. Lidl, with 10,000 stores in 27 countries, is opening its first U.S. stores this year. The German company is planning to open 100 stores across the East Coast with about 4,000 employees by the end of 2018.
“Not only did the team deserve the award though the eyes of the KBS Safety Department, but they also proved their worth during the weekly safety inspections conducted by Lidl’s outsourced consultation department. Very few safety violations were identified by both sets of eyes watching closely over the project, and those that were did not carry over to future inspections, as they were immediately addressed and corrected by the field team,” said Mark Lambert, corporate safety director.
