The 11,000-square-foot Puller Science Center will be home to the school’s unique science department, and will feature state-of-the-art laboratories for the biology, physics, chemistry, environmental and marine science programs.
The project is designed for LEED certification and will house aquarium, aquaculture tanks, and sophisticated equipment for monitoring the river and weather in real-time. Within view of the Rappahannock River, the building features to a two story glass atrium, and 4 classrooms and labs. Christchurch, long a local leader in protecting the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay, will increase its efforts to enable students to take full advantage of the river and bay in their scientific studies, while also incorporating these assets across the entire curriculum.
The Science Center will be a cornerstone in Christchurch School’s master plan, as well as in the school’s commitment to teaching about local and global environments by bringing the river to the classroom and the classroom to the river.
