On December 12, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia celebrated by sharing the heartwarming stories of wishes granted and raising funds to continue its work during the live Make-a-Wish “Twelve Hours of Christmas” Radiothon. The radiothon was featured on Hot 100.9 (WHTI) and 103.7 The River (WURV) and raised more than $28,000. KBS’s vice president of business development, John Gillenwater, was there to lend a hand and an ear. Gillenwater answered phones during the early morning and evening shifts during the radiothon.
Make-A-Wish will use the donations to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Wishes can be anything from a vacation with the family to meeting a celebrity and are important for giving an ill child strength, hope and joy.
Radio personalities from HOT 100.9 and 103.7 The River were on the air broadcasting for 12 hours, along with local families who had been granted wishes by Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia. A bonus thirteenth hour was even added to bring in more donations.

Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish is dedicated to making every eligible child’s wish come true. In Virginia, there are more than 510 children each year who are medically eligible for a wish and the organization currently grants 250 each year with the average cost of $8,000.
