KBS Employee “Adopts” Marines for Thanksgiving

Posted on December 17, 2012 in News

Thanksgiving and the coming holiday season are all about spending time with family and making new memories with those you love. The holidays are a great time to celebrate, yet for some people it’s not an option to do it with their own families. For those brave men and women who serve our country, sometimes going home to see their own families is impossible. This is why programs like “Adopt a Serviceperson” exist.

Our own Sam Stocks recently took part in this program for Thanksgiving, welcoming two young men who recently completed boot camp for the Marines. Darren, who is from Texas, and Kyle, who is from North Carolina, are now stationed at Fort Lee to begin ordinance training. Stocks said that “it was great to see so many other families picking folks up just like we did” when he and his family picked up the two of them.

Offering these young men and women a family atmosphere around the holidays is a fun and memorable experience for both parties. Not only will your family meet new people and have more company, you will also be boosting morale and giving young people home-like environments when they need it most. Taking part in programs like this is a great way to give back to the community and also provide a warm family experience for those who do so much for our country.

If you are interested in adopting a service member for Thanksgiving in the future, please visit the USO website. There are many more ways to help others, both service members and non-service members, especially around the holidays. Please consider helping out others in your community this holiday season!
